You might be wondering what work is going on through 8th Street and Range Road 11.

That work is being done by Fortis Alberta and Manager of Corporate Communications Alana Antonelli explains what’s happening.

“We have crews working in the area to bury line underground and connect to a substation. The reason for this is to improve reliability to some of the communities in that area including Prairie Springs, Windsong, Hillcrest and Bayside.”

Antonelli says that with Airdrie rapidly growing in that quadrant of the city, the need for a reliable response to electricity was needed.

“We have visibility through our control centre in Airdrie to our entire network of electricity lines and so when we have distribution automation if they can, they can turn the power back on automatically rather than having to wait for a patrol and do it that way.”

Lane closures are expected along that street for at least the rest of the week with the project itself possibly taking a couple months.

“If you do see lane closures and people working,” says Antonelli, “please be mindful of safety around our workers. Thank you for your patience.”
