Airdrie will soon have some edible plants to enjoy this fall.

The City of Airdrie is planting edibles trees and shrubs in the community of Sagewood on September 22nd.

Airdrie received a grant from Tree Canada to provide the edible trees in the community which the public will be able to pick.

There will be 22 trees and 45 shrubs bearing fruit planted. The fruit planted will vary from apples, cherries. plums, honey berries and a number of others.

Mayor Peter Brown says it's a good idea to come down and learn about what trees will and will not flourish in the community.

"The one thing I think people forget their own trees is some trees don't do well in Airdrie and our park services are very knowledgeable about what trees do and do not grow."

Parks services will be starting to plant trees at 10 a.m on the 22nd.
