It was a frightening sight to see for Airdrie drivers on Friday the thirteenth, and it was at the local gas station.

Many stations in the city hiked prices to unheard of levels, 129.9 cents a litre.

Yikes! Gas prices went to scary levels in Airdrie this morning.

That number is above the provincial average which sits at 122 cents, with prices expected to go up across Alberta.

While B.C. and Alberta continue their dispute to get the Trans Mountain Pipeline built, leading to even higher prices in the Vancouver area, apparently Alberta’s prices have nothing to do with that dispute.

In an e-mail sent to Discover Airdrie, Dan McTeague from Gas Buddy says these prices hikes are “the rising price for gasoline on Midwest prices and some Edmonton refiners our for maintenance.”

Shell and Petro Canada were the first to raise their prices; we reached out to Shell and Suncor but have yet to hear back.
