Some new additions to Airdrie's Kingsview Market caught some local drivers by surprise this week.

Melcor Developments, who oversee Kingsview Market installed new speed bumps on June 12th. Not long after they went in, social media was buzzing with residents saying they had no warning about the bumps, nor were they painted.

Some also said that the bumps backed up traffic, especially on the entrance to Market Street from Yankee Valley Boulevard and that some of them were too high.

Kim Forsyth, a representative from Melcor explains why they put the bumps there in the first place.

"These speed bumps were installed to ensure the safety of both vehicle and pedestrian visitors to Kingsview Market, after we had made attempts to mitigate excessive speed with signage, which did not succeed. Our speed bump plan was the result of 8 months of review with Melcor's operation and management team and our third party property manager."

In regards to the lack of yellow paint on the bumps, Forsyth says that inclement weather prevented crews from painting, but were able to start that work today (June 15th).

Forsyth says that they took the process seriously, with their own reviews and research.

"Most vehicles we tested had no problems clearing the speed bumps, we even checked it out on a Mustang. We will be feathering back the grade to ensure that no vehicles will hit the bottom. We hear their concerns and we're doing something to ensure that no vehicle damage occurs."

As of today, crews began scaling down some of the speedbumps and even removed the one near the intersection with Yankee Valley Blvd.
