Drinking and driving always seems to be a major problem during the holidays with Christmas and New Year celebrations, however in Airdrie, the 2018 holiday season was quiet.

Corporal Gina Slaney of the Airdrie RCMP says they did not see a huge amount of complaints regarding driving under the influence, unlike years in the past.

"Thankfully for the citizens of Airdrie, RCMP and emergency personnel, things were rather quiet during the Christmas season. RCMP responded to 10 complaints of possible impaired drivers (and) only two of those investigations resulted in charges."

Despite the lack of DUIs during the holidays, the RCMP would still like to remind everyone of the dangers of driving while intoxicated.

"RCMP want to remind the citizens of Airdrie that if you're going out and driving a vehicle and maybe indulging in a drink or two, we have the mandatory alcohol screening now so we can request a sample of your breath at any time you're in a vehicle. Please keep that in mind, please be responsible and don't drink and drive."

Slaney says the RCMP is grateful for responsible drivers.

"The RCMP would like to thank the citizens of Airdrie for being responsible during the holiday season."
