The weather is warming up and more moving trucks will be driving along Airdrie streets this month.

May is Moving Month and the Better Better Bureau (BBB) wants to make sure you're not left in the dark when it comes to finding a reputable mover.

Wes Lafortune with the BBB of Southern Alberta said the spring and summer months are the busiest for movers and when they receive the most complaints from customers.

"To date, in 2020/2021, 65 complaints. That's about ninth on the list as far as what people complain about what type of industry, last year there was about 66 complaints."

ved complaints about movers holding possessions hostage and demanding more money before releasing them and those that do not offer a written contract.

"We urge consumers to do their due diligence before hiring a mover," said president of the Canadian Association of Movers Nancy Irvine. "When trusting all of your belongings to someone, it’s worth doing the background work by researching your mover to avoid future heartache."

The BBB and the Canadian Association of Movers have developed an online tool to help people find a reliable company.
