In the coming weeks, you may see Search and Rescue Canadian Search Dog Association (CDSA) handlers and their dogs running around the alleyways in Cochrane.

Cochrane Search and Rescue says there's no reason to be alarmed, CDSA Dog Handler Andrew Potton said they are just training towards a second year validation, which is the Urban K9 Profile.

"The Urban Profile focuses on looking for missing persons, or potential evidence within an urban setting. So a lot of what we're doing at the moment is a specific validation process called back alley searching. So we're running our dogs down the various back alleys of Cochrane looking for evidence that other handlers have hidden."

Potton said if you see a handler in uniform with their dog on a long line, feel free to come say hello.

"We're always happy to talk to people and explain what we do, as long as we're not running with the dogs down the alleyway then by all means stop and have a chat with us."

The Urban K9 Profile training will continue for the next four weeks.
