The dog park in Kings Heights has reopened after a gasoline spill yesterday (August 23).

"Approximately 70 to 100 litres of fuel made its way into the storm sewer system through the infrastructure that's in place there, potentially threatened the water feature within the Kings Heights Dog Park," said Deputy Fire Chief Garth Rabel.

Emergency crews closed the park as a precaution. There were concerns that the gasoline would travel down catchments from the spill site, at least three blocks away, into a water feature near the dog park. Crews also set up water booms in that water feature as a precaution until they could clean the spill.

The fuel didn't make its way into the pond at the dog park. Rabel explained that the spill was properly contained and cleaned up by 7:00pm last night.
