The City of Airdrie is testing the waters with their 'Look Closer' survey to determine if Airdronians are interested in building a second pool facility.

Lucy Wiwcharuk, Director of Corporate Services with the City of Airdrie, said that during the last Look Closer survey, there were multiple suggestions for a second pool on the west side.

"We did start to hear this indication of our citizens wanting an additional pool in our city. We just wanted to follow up with that and just ask a few more questions about it, to sort of get a feel for how many of our residents are interested in this."

Wiwcharuk said the important questions are whether or not residents are willing to pay more taxes for the cost of the structure and running the facility and if they are open to the city using grant dollars in addition to the taxes.

If enough interest is shown, Wiwcharuk said that a proposal would be put together that would be presented to the City Council Budget committee.

"It will go in front of councils budget committee right at the beginning of our budget and planning process in October, then what council can do is take that into consideration along with all the other city needs."
