Airdrie RCMP have charged a 25-year-old assistant basketball coach of the University Of Calgary Junior Dinos club program with sexual exploitation.

On July 11, 2016 Kristie Sheils was charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a young person after a tip lead police to launch an investigation.

"It was in relation to the allegation of a female basketball coach, in a position where she was alleged to have sexually exploited one of the young persons." said Cpl. Laurel Scott.

Sheils appeared in Calgary Provincial Court on July 12, 2016 and was released on a recognizance order to abide by release conditions.

The conditions include having no contact with the victim, no contact with any children under the age of 18 unless in the presence of an adult who is at least 21 years of age, and to not to be employed or engaged in volunteer service which would put her in a position of trust or authority to children under the age of 18.

"The concern may be that this assistant basketball coach is in a position where she may deal with other team members, which is not to say that we have any other complaints, but its our duty to put this information out so that the public is aware that this has happened and that she's facing this charge." said Scott.

Sheils is scheduled make her second appearance in Calgary Provincial Court on Thursday, July 14th.

As with all investigations, if you have any other information on this case, you are encouraged to contact the RCMP or Crimestoppers.
