Didsbury RCMP are investigating a theft that occurred on Thursday (October 12) sometime between 8:30am and 1:30pm at a home on Range Road 35.

"Unknown suspects forced entry into a home near Dogpound, west of Didsbury," said Staff Sergent Chad Fournier, "Once inside, numerous items were stolen including family heirlooms, two gold rings and a small red wooden urn which contained the ashes of the homeowner's deceased husband."

A black 2001 Chevrolet S10 truck with Alberta license plate BSR-2779 was also stolen from the property. Fournier said they don't know how many people were involved in the crime.

Right now, the RCMP is prioritizing recovering the urn.

"The deceased husband passed away within this last year, and his ashes were in the red wooden urn. We believe that the perpetrators did not know what the box contained. Crimes like this, they really tug at your heartstrings."

Fournier is hopeful that anyone with information on the crime will come forward.

"If anybody has any information, they can contact Crime Stoppers by phone. And even the perpetrators themselves, if they want to leave the urn anywhere, they can leave it and also call Crime Stoppers themselves and leave a message on where that might be."

Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-222-8477.
