Another name will be on the ballot come October 16th.

Serge Desrochers announced he will run for a seat on City Council next month. Desrochers said it's not the first time he's been part of municipal politics.

"I have experience in the past in Quebec when I was there. I did it for one term, 1999 to 2003. I like to discuss the hard discussions and everything and decisions. I want to help Airdrie move forward."

Desrochers explained that a main priority for his campaign is dealing with the issue of traffic, especially on Yankee Valley Boulevard.

"Traffic lights need to be coordinated, in my opinion, then we have to find a way to help the flow of traffic."

Desrochers also said public safety is a major issue and he wants to bring more law enforcement officers to our growing community.

Over the next few weeks Desrochers will be interacting with voters on social media and in person. He believes that's much better than putting signs and pamphlets out in the city.

"If I send paper or I put signs, is that having an effect on the election? Maybe yes or maybe no. For me I don't think it's making a huge effect. People need to know you and if they know you, then they want to vote for you."
