Construction begins today, August 2, on 8th Street to begin twinning the road between Yankee Valley Blvd. and Hillcrest Way.

Lane closures, detours and reduced speed limits will be set up throughout the month of August with the City hopeful that construction will be complete next month.

"The projects going to hopefully be completed by September," said Mayor Peter Brown. "I don't always like to give a firm date but I am feeling fairly confident."

The city has projected a completion date of September 30, as long as weather does not disrupt construction.

In addition to the twinning of the roads, the city will also be putting in storm water utilities, new asphalt, curbs/gutters, underground work for future traffic signals and landscaping.

The road construction on 40th Avenue is well underway with Mayor Brown sharing that the girders are being installed on the 40th Avenue bridge over the railroad tracks.

"Finally after a number of years we are starting to see some of this connectivity starting to happen. I know a lot of people wish it would happen sooner but it's very exciting to see these girders going up over the railroad tracks, and we are going to have another way for people to get in and out of the community."

The city also has a small 2-day road closure planned for King's Heights, with temporary road closure on Kings Heights Way from August 3-5.

When traveling through any road construction, Mayor Brown asked that all people keep safety in mind and slow down and obey the signs.
