Monday was the start to Airdrie's curbside recycling pick up, and things didn't go as smoothly as the city had hoped.

Some neighbourhoods experienced very delayed pick ups and others have had to wait until today to have their recycling taken away.

Susan Grimm, from the City of Airdrie's Waste and Recycling Department says that she can't see this being a persistant problem, and that it is likely due to the build of recycling that people had.

"In some cases, people had their carts for over a month, they were stock piling, and in some cases it was jammed in there pretty tightly."

According to Grimm there are a couple of ways to avoid this problem in the future.

"It will work itself out anyways, but the recommendation is to avoid jamming all the recycling into the bin so that it takes a great deal of force to get it all out, as well as to make sure that the bin is left out from 7 am to 7 pm on pick up days."

Grimm asks that you direct your questions and concerns to the waste and recycling department for the right clarification.
