With nomination day now in the books, an Airdrie resident is ready to run for City Council.

Mike De Bokx has been a proud resident of Airdrie since 1999 and felt that it was the right thing to do to run for Council this year.

"I did run in 2013, coming short of getting onto council. Despite some of the things that I went through back in 2013, my passion for being a part of leading where the city goes in the future has never really waned."

De Bokx will be focusing on several issues for this election season, but he says the most important one is transparency and accountability.

"As an example you can go back to the Main Street Square. I'm all for it, revitalizing downtown and doing whatever changes down there are necessary. The way that council semeed to approach last year, bringing it forward, just seemed very back door, behind closed doors."

De Bokx says he has appreciated the job of council members in the last couple terms but feels that there needs to be a change on council this time around.

The next month will be busy as De Bokx reaches out to the community and hears their concerns for this election.

His biggest advice for voters is to simply vote after a 30% turnout in the 2017 election.

"It's a shame," says De Bokx, "I'm really promoting and hoping that people get out to vote. I know some people think that one vote deosn't make a difference but I think it really can make a difference. It gives people an opportunity to let their beliefs and what they want to see the city become."
