For the second time in history, the Alberta Government will be recognizing the International Day of Older Persons.

On October 1st the Province will be celebrating elderly citizens across Alberta.

This year's theme is "Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions" and the province is hoping that the day of recognition will provide the public with an additional opportunity to honour and celebrate older persons in the community.

A resident at Cedarwood Station in Airdrie known as Toad served in the military for 25 years before hanging up his uniform and working with the government.

Toad says he believes the elderly have a lot of knowledge to share.

"I think a lot of people need to hear what we have to say, not that everything we say needs to be done but we should definitely be heard."

Toad also says that he is more than happy with how the government has taken care of him in his older years.

"In my case, I can only speak for myself, however with me being ex-military, the government has taken care of me wonderfully through DBA."
