The $60 million food court expansion at CrossIron Mills was completed in July, with the mall hosting their grand opening July 27.

In addition to the food court, the mall has also chosen to expand their recycling program, doubling their green room to collect additional recyclables.

"We have light bulbs, batteries, electronics, various types of plastics that we weren't able to do before, and paper separating," said James Moller, CrossIron Mills General Manager.

The mall began their initial recycling program a couple of years ago with the recycling of cooking oil and bottles and cans.

Moller said that the mall is currently recycling close to 50 per cent of their waste, but the goal is to increase that to 60 percent within the next 3 to 5 years.

The mall is also utilizing the organics program, with each food kiosk recycling their waste.

Moller said that within the next 18 months, the goal is to also add organics recycling for patrons in the food court.
