In an effort to deter crime, the town of Crossfield is considering installing security cameras at key intersections in and out of the town.

Mayor Nathan Anderson said that due to the increase in population and the large industrial area, the town is starting to experience an increase in crime.

"We have a sort of disproportionate in a good way industrial community, which means we have a lot of industrial relative to other communities of our size, and that of course is attractive because there is a lot of assets and stuff to bring folks in that wanna make a quick get away and make a few bucks."

Anderson said that the town is not experiencing a rampant crime increase but the increase has raised enough interest that Town Council is looking at ways to prevent the numbers from climbing.

The cameras would only be used as a tool to aid in the prosecution of crimes said Anderson, they would not be used to monitor traffic or the public.

"They would strictly be used as evidence for criminal charges for things like theft or any other thing that may happen in the community of a criminal nature."

Town council will be meeting again in August to discuss further details and will look for the public's feedback in the coming months.

Anderson said that the timeline, if approved, will have cameras installed in the early part of 2017.
