Alberta's Summer Temporary Employment Program is now accepting applications, and Nicole Vandenberghe at the Crossfield Chamber of Commerce hopes businesses in the town will take advantage of the wage subsidy program.

Vandenberghe said the program can free up businesses to accomplish tasks they shunt to the side.

"Having the subsidy program, it can make it more affordable to bring in another employee, and this can help you in all areas of the business. So any sort of project that's been set aside, this can help you get to it."

Vandenberghe said the program also benefits students and the town itself. Student employees that are brought on for the summer can get a feel for the day-to-day operations of a business, providing them with vital job experience. The program can also boost the local economy.

"Creating jobs provides extra money to the employee, allowing the employee to spend a little extra money within the community. So it really stimulates the economy of the town."

The wage subsidy program is accepting applications until February 24. Learn more here.
