Calgary MLA Sandra Jansen called on her fellow politicians to take on sexism in politics on Tuesday, November 22nd.

In an impassioned speech, Jansen addressed sexist threats and insults she received as a result of crossing over from the PC's to the NDP.

"When you are in that minority role as a politician, you are the easiest target over and over again, whether you are a woman or whether you are of a different ethnic background," said Airdrie City Councillor Candice Kolson.

The comments received by Jansen have even led to increased security, as death threats have surfaced.

According to Kolson, online harassment is unacceptable:

"If you can be held accountable for what you're saying in the moment, then you shouldn't be saying it online."

Jansen received a standing ovation from members of all parties for her speech.
