The location for a new Airdrie Public Library will be the topic of discussion at Monday’s City Council meeting.

In January the City of Airdrie contracted help from the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation to conduct key library stakeholder interviews and facilitate strategic project planning discussions with Council.

CMLC has created a final report and includes a summary of stakeholder interviews, site overviews and a recommended site selection.

This would not be a secondary facility, but rather a replacement for the existing Airdrie Public Library.

The project would see the construction of a new 50,000 square foot library built at one of three possible sites. The locations include the current site on Main Street next to City Hall, along Main Street at the Nose Creek Museum site, or where the old fire hall is located also on Main Street.

The recommendation from city staff is to accept the report and the recommended location which is the former fire hall site.

City Council will review the report at the meeting and discuss the pros and cons of all the different possible locations.

If council decides on a site for the library, the next steps for the project will include hiring a consultant to complete a program plan and figure out how to proceed with it.
