November 29 has been proclaimed Giving Tuesday in Airdrie.

The proclamation was made by City Council during their meeting on November 21.

"We know that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the signals for the buying season," said David Maffitt with Volunteer Airdrie Society, "Giving Tuesday is the kickoff for giving back to charities."

Maffitt encourages Airdronians to go online and create a campaign to support the charities and causes close to their hearts. "Right now there's three registered partners officially in Giving Tuesday in the Airdrie area," says Maffitt, "But that doesn't limit people to just those three. They can go support the Food Bank and other local charities."

Maffitt is optimistic about the level of engagement with causes in the community, but says the need is always great. "Airdrie's such a great community already in terms of giving and volunteering that it's really hard for me sometimes to ask for more, but especially in today's economic environment, charities really do need to be supported."

Maffitt encourages anyone interested in Giving Tuesday to visit givingtuesday.ca or canadahelps.org.
