Airdrie City Council will get down to business following the long weekend as they hold their regular meeting later this afternoon (February 20).

Council will be presented with an overview of the Government of Canada's Smart Cities Challenge.  They'll be asked to support an application that sees the city partner with the Airdrie and Area Health Benefits Cooperative on a submission that strives to make Airdrie the healthiest community in Canada.

Still, with health, Michelle Bates the Chair of the Airdrie Health Foundation will be presenting an update on the foundation to council.

Susan Grimm of Waste and Recycling will present a report on Extended Producer Responsibility legislation in Alberta.

It will provide information on a resolution at the Provincial Government level to start a collaborative process to develop and implement legislation that would shift operational responsibility and cost of managing specific wastes from the Municipal tax base to producers such as brand owners, manufacturers, and retailers.

Today's meeting gets underway at 3:30 pm in Council Chambers at Airdrie City Hall.
