At yesterday's (February 6) City Council meeting, the issue of the 28 day utility billing cycle was addressed.

Shannon Schindeler was on hand to discuss the matter, and the City issued a clarifying release following the meeting as well.

Schindeler explained that although the 28 day billing cycle does produce an extra bill every year, customers end up paying the same amount of money regardless. Administration fees are fixed and based on the number of days in the billing cycle, not the number of bills in a year.

Schindeler explained that if the average bill is $100 dollars every 28 days, the total in the year would equal $1300. Under a monthly billing system, the cost in a year would still be $1300, but the monthly bill would charge $108.33.

According to Schindeler, the 28 day cycle allows more consistent billing that can help people identify changes in usage or leaks.

Schindeler also explained that two payment plans are available to Airdronians in order to assist them with budgeting.
