On Wednesday (September 6th), construction finally began on the left hand turn from Sierra Springs to Yankee Valley Blvd.

Although the project was slated to start around August 31st, Ken Velcic with the City's Engineering Services expects construction to finish fairly soon.

"They are a week behind in starting, so I'm anticipating they will be completing a week beyond the completion date. September 20th is the current completion date."

Velcic says the challenge with the project is the various components.

"There's the traffic signal itself, there's lane configuration changes, there's concrete curb work, there's pavement work and all of these are happening at various locations."

The construction should have only a minor impact on traffic as Velcic says crews will only need to periodically close shoulders and reduce speed limits.
