Work on the first stage of Main Street in downtown Cochrane is scheduled to start on Monday.

It"s all part of the enhancement project that includes trees and benches along First Street and a new gateway feature on Fifth Avenue north of the tracks that is taking place for the Historic Downtown.

Suzanne Gaida, Senior Manage of Commuity Services for the Town of Cochrane says by doing the work one block at a time, disruptions will be kept to a minimum in the area.

"There will be construction fencing and barricades around the work locations, but we're working with downtown businesses to make sure there is clear access to their doors and signage so customers know they're open for business as ususal."

The work will start on the north side of First Street between First and Second Avenues.  Each block is scheduled to take approximately three weeks to complete.

Work includes the installation of wooden benches, planter boxes and locations for trees that use Silva Cells, a specialized undergrounds system to support large tree growth.

The full schedule for the construction can be found at cochrane.ca/Construction.
