Yesterday's (October 17) fire in the Sharp Hill community left one family without a home, and now their friends and family are helping them out.

Dave Smith, whose family were forced to flee, recounts the moments when they realized the fire was coming their way.

"The smoke instantly, we could see nothing, coming from looking out the window. Right away you go into that mode of, 'you got to move'. The second we saw the smoke come up, the flames were instantly there in a second."

Although the pain of losing their house and the family dogs is still there, Smith says the family is getting through it together along with great support from those around them.

"One minute you're feeling like, 'ok, what's next.' The next minutes you're running through what happened that day and the tears just come out, can't control it. We're really a tight family. We've got each other and we've got such a huge support network around us."

That network includes their home church and Rocky View Schools as Smith works for the division.

"That type of support from people just reminds you of the goodness of folks," says Smith.

Janelle Nordin, a close friend of the Smith family has helped set up a Go Fund Me page to help the family with what they need right now.

"There's so many needs. Everything from underwear to toothbrushes to socks and just the essentials, to not having clothing to wear tomorrow, to not having a vehicle to drive," says Nordin. "Not having food on the table or not even having a table. We're trying to accumulate something so that, in the meantime waiting for insurance to kick in, that there's some sort of support."

You can find the Go Fund Me page here.

Nordin says they are also receiving support from Meals Made Easy on Main Street
