After 6 years and 1500 volunteer hours, Vicky Murphy is retiring from her volunteer role at Community Links.

The 86 year-old has volunteered in the toy and resource library every Monday and Thursday since February 2010.

Sue Der Stepanian, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at Community Links said that Murphy was everything you could ever ask for in a volunteer.

“Vickie’s 5 plus years with Community Links epitomizes the win-win that should be reflected in a volunteer experience. Through her dedication, hard work and attention to detail, Vickie has helped Community Links meet its mission and vision."

Der Stepanian said that after Murphy retired from her job in oil and gas she was looking for a new routine and a way to give back to the community.

“My long-time relationship with Community Links has been my way of giving back to my community," said Murphy. "My life has been enriched by the positive attitude that I have shared with staff members."

Murphy, who told Der Stepanian that even at 86 she still doesn't feel old, but she is looking forward to her free time and sleeping in when she feels like it.

Der Stepanian said that although it is a bitter sweet goodbye, Murphy will still help out when she can.

"She'll be connected here forever. She'll always drop in, she's actually even told us that if there are any special events or anything coming up let her know because she would be interested in helping us out with the odd little project that comes up here and there."
