October is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

As it comes to an end, it is important to know the signs of child abuse, and what to do.

"Whether a child is going to school hungry, or not dressed for the weather or being left alone too often, there is different levels of abuse." said Caren Anderson, Counselling Services Supervisor, Community Links.

Anderson also added that child abuse is not always directed at the child.

"We talk about the affect of witnessing domestic violence almost being like a war zone for children. There's much more research out there about the toxic stress that can take place in the family when there is abuse taking place between the parents."

If you see the signs of abuse, it is important to act accordingly as they could have a significant trauma on the child.

Some of these signs include if a child is unusually aggressive, withdrawn, visibly injured, and many more.
