Shoppers in Cochrane now have the option to use currency tailored for the town.

The "Cochrane Dollars" feature local historical figures and landmarks and were unveiled at a ceremony this morning (May 19).

Cochrane Mayor Ivan Brooker says the bills are a fabulous way to support local business.  "We think local business and residents will embrace this initiative as a unique way to support fellow Cochranites and the work they do."

Imagery on the new bills capture Cochrane's character, celebrate the cultural and western heritage, the creative spirit, diversity and local landmarks.

The bills are available in denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20 as well as a limited edition $150 note to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.  The $1 note is themed "Vision" and features Senator Matthew Henry Cochrane, the man the town was named after, and the Men of Vision statue.  Other bills also feature well know Cochranites and landmarks.

The images on the bills were chosen by the Cochrane Monetary Foundation using input from the public and from Cochrane Economic Development.

The Cochrane Dollar is meant to inspire local shopping, stimulate the local economy, and support local businesses and jobs by keeping spending in Cochrane.  The bills also contain security features such as embossing and UV ink which makes them difficult to counterfeit.
