With all the changes coming to Airdrie's waste and recycling program, there's another wrinkle in the plan.

The City plans to close the West Side Recycling Depot at the end of April and according to Susan Grimm, Team Leader for Waste and Recycling, with the introduction of curbside recycling, there won't be a need for two sites.

"The volumes are going to substantially decrease, and it wasn't warranted to have two sites open."

Once the West Side site is closed, you'll need to go to the East Side Depot to get rid of any items that can't be put into the new blue recycle bins. Grimm says that would be the case even if the West Side site stayed open.

"We accept many, many more things at the East Side Depot than we do or have ever at the West."

Grimm says that anyone concerned that closing the West Side Depot will cause inconvenience shouldn't worry.

"We're introducing the convenience of recycling at your door, and we're also introducing convenience of recycling at your complex if you're in multi-family."
