May 2nd has been proclaimed by City Council as Meals On Wheels day.

On Monday ( April 16th) City Council proclaimed May 2nd as Airdrie's Meals on Wheels day to recognize the outstanding achievements and dedication those involved in the program have shown over the last 35 years.

Past President of the Meals On Wheels program Trudy Eyre says she's happy that City Council went ahead with the proclamation because the volunteers work hard.

"We have delivered a lot of meals, the numbers just keep going up and in the 35 years in Airdrie we have never missed a delivery"

Eyre also says that over the last 35 years she has seen the need for the program grow and grow and lately the need for the program is becoming more crucial to the community.

"The last two years the growth has been record-breaking, I think it has a lot to do with people realizing the program isn't just for seniors."

Eyre says that lately, she has seen a huge increase in people in their forties use the program.
