The Airdrie Pro Rodeo is back in action this year from June 28th to July 2nd.

Airdrie's Pro Rodeo is an official CPRA event, as part of the Wrangler Canadian Rodeo Tour.

This year, as the Airdrie Pro Rodeo celebrates its 49th year, the City of Airdrie will officially be apart of the action.

Wayne Hanson, with the Pro Rodeo explained what he has in store for Mayor Peter Brown.

"Well Mayor Brown has agreed to come to the rodeo grounds on the 1st of July, ride in and open our rodeo on the 1st of July weekend."

Hanson also said the Pro Rodeo has always been a joint effort with the City of Airdrie.

"We work really close with the city because they actually own the land and we rent the land off of them to put the rodeo on. Mayor Brown has always been a great supporter of our 1st of July rodeo celebration that we have out there and he always shows up and does us proud."

Throughout the years, the rodeo and the rodeo grounds have become a spot well frequented by Mayor Brown. This year, he decided to take it one step further, heading out the Hanson's Ranch last week, Mayor Brown was able to hone his skills before his big appearance in the rodeo. See how he did below.

Hanson also shared some positive news after camping was excluded at last years rodeo.

"At this point, we've worked through lots of details with the MD and it looks like there probably will be. We still have to dot some I's and cross some T's, but everybody has to stay in tune and see if we get everything in line to make that happen."

This year, the rodeo will be introducing a brand new, never before seen event, cow milking. In addition to the milking the rodeo will feature all the great events of any rodeo, including mutton busting, barrel racing and pony races.

Tickets are available this week at a variety of local businesses. For specific locations, you can visit the Pro Rodeo website.
