At a press event on Thursday (May 25) to thank the province for the dual lane exit off Highway 2, Team Lead for Engineering with the City of Airdrie Bob Neale provided an update on another project that will relieve transportation pressure in the city.

"We've already completed a bridge across the CP tracks at 40th Avenue on the west side of the highway, and coming this year we're completing another segment of 40th Avenue on the east side just on interface between Sharp Hill and Kings Heights. We're laying the foundation for our skeletal network, the missing component will be a future partial interchange at 40th Avenue and Highway 2."

While Neale did not provide any timeline, Mayor Peter Brown says that the important thing is that Airdrie is on the government's radar, pointing to recent visits from Transportation Minister Brian Mason.

"We've moved ahead on detailed design of 40th Avenue. To me, we've eliminated a whole year's worth of waiting when and if the money comes. We're always advocating, we're always hoping, and my feeling is that something's going to happen here in the next year or two."
