With the first Monday in October bringing a sudden blast of winter, city crews had to be quick to clear the busy Airdrie roads.

Team lead with the City's Roads Department, Mike Avramenko says crews were prepared for the onslaught of winter.

"We were anticipating the storm to come, they were talking about it for two days so we had some resources and trucks all ready to go this morning. The only thing we can't control, obviously, is the intensity of the wind and I think that's the biggest issue today."

Avramenko says that crews will continue to clear and sand roads well into the evening, which means you'll need to give the trucks extra space.

"I just caution the motorists out there that they're going to have to slow down because the trucks can only go so fast on the routes and with this wind, by the time they come back where they started, it's almost like they're starting all over again."
