It’s expected to be one of the busiest council meetings of the year so far as the Mayor and Councillors convene at City Hall today (July 3rd).

Mayor Peter Brown says there are several items on the agenda with the biggest one coming later in the day with the public hearing on cannabis bylaws.

“Permitted smoking areas within the community. Obviously, it’s open to the public. The other public hearing as it relates to marijuana is land use. [We] encourage people that have an interest there to come and participate.”

Council will also hear a presentation on a 5-year plan from Waste and Recycling and look at possible changes to their sewer bylaw.

Another presentation that will be made revolves around the City’s future efforts for water conservation.

“We’re looking at every opportunity to conserve water,” says Mayor Brown, “currently, we have a number of different initiatives from water sensors to low flow toilets. Many people took advantage of those opportunities.”

The City is launching their education program for water conservation with a sale of rain barrels on Saturday (July 7th).

The afternoon session of the council meeting begins at 3:30 with the evening session and public hearings to follow at 5:30.

You can see more of the council agenda for today on the City’s official website.
