If you've ever thought that being a City of Airdrie Councillor would be an easy job, you apparently haven't seen today's (May 22) post-Victoria Day Council Meeting Agenda.

Council is facing a long, and weighty set of items to wade their way through at the meeting which starts this afternoon at 3:30 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall.

Among the items, and bear in mind, this is only a partial list, will be a presentation on backyard wood fire pits and their health effects on Airdrie residents. Council will be asked to consider imposing restrictions on their use in Airdrie and determine when they can be used.

Council will also be asked to give a second and third reading to a debenture borrowing bylaw for the purpose of funding the 2018 Roadworks Capital Project - 24th Street Yankee Valley Boulevard to Cobblestone Creek Collector.

The Urban Beekeeping Pilot Project for Airdrie will also come up on today's agenda. Council is being asked to approve an addition to the project's scope of work to include the Beekeeping Pilot and a Bee City Designation.

Council members will also be asked to endorse the 2019-2022 Strategic Priorities for Airdrie to identify critical focus areas as our population grows toward 90,000 people.

They'll also hear a presentation from the Chair of Nature Airdrie, the group that is proposing the creation of a natural preservation area for the city.

Two groups will ask the city to make proclamations.  The Thumbs Up Foundation is requesting council proclaim June 2018 as Mental Health and Addictions Awareness Month in Airdrie, and Community Links will ask that the week of June 4th to the 10th be proclaimed Senior's Week.

On a somewhat lighter note, the Mayor for a Day Challenge winners will be presented to council.

After all that, and lots more on their agenda, you really couldn't blame the council for taking a well-deserved nap!
