It was a relatively easy night for city councillors at last night's (October 1st) council meeting.

It took less than an hour for City Council to polish off the first half of the agenda, yet in that hour a lot was done.

City staff approved three proclamation requests from the Quinns Legacy Run Foundation and City Waste Management.

October 15th is being recognized as pregnancy and infancy loss awareness day in Airdrie and the City Hall will be light up in pink and blue lights to remember children who have died in infancy.

October 6th will be recognized as Cerebral Palsy Day in Airdrie and City Hall will be light up in green lights to raise awareness of cerebral palsy and celebrate the livers and achievements of those who suffer from cerebral palsy and the individuals and organizations who support them.

October 15th to the 21st will be Waste Reduction Week and City hall will be lit up in green lights on October 19th to help build awareness around issues of sustainable and responsible consumption and promote actions that divert waste from disposal and conserve natural resources.

It was not only proclamations that were made, however, council also received a report and update on the Calgary Metropolitan Board and the plans that are in the works.

In the last half of the agenda, the Mayor for A Day winner Maddox Nelles was present to run the council meeting. Nelles won the challenge after pitching his idea to improve the drainage system in Ravenswood and the surrounding areas by removing the mulch and replacing it with rocks to prevent the systems from being clogged. This would increase the safety of residents and prevent them from losing items when pools of water from around the area.
