The City of Airdrie along with some volunteers took a bit of time over the weekend to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.

As part of the celebration the city planted 150 trees and invited residents to come and attach messages onto each tree. While the weather was slightly windy and cold, families did make their way out to tie their messages onto the trees. A special plaque was also unveiled as commemoration of Canada's 150th. Mayor Peter Brown shared a little bit about the plaque.

"We found the location and the process was done and it actually came over from Australia. Apparently the first one was lost, the second one, they thought was lost, but was found just in time, I think last Friday, so we're excited it could get installed in time."

The plaque shares a brief message with the date commemorating the event and can be found near the snack shack at Chinook Winds Park.
