The Airdrie RCMP and Municipal Enforcement of Team Blue are meeting at the Airdrie Superstore today from 10 am to 1 pm to collect donations for the Airdrie Food Bank.

The two teams, Red and Blue, have been battling as part of the Airdrie Lip Sync Sirens challenge to see who can give the most to a chosen charity each month, with the loser having to lip sync to a song of the winner's choosing. Team Red, consisting of the Fire Department and local EMS, won for the month of November when they donated more to the Lioness Christmas Hamper Program.

Corporal Gina Slaney of the Airdrie RCMP describes what will be going on today at Superstore.

"I will be there with some other members and our municipal enforcement team. We will be begging our citizens of Airdrie to please help us in this Sirens Lip Sync Challenge. We need to beat team red this month! They beat us by a little bit in the month of November, so we really, really want to come out on top. So please, if you haven't donated, or even if you have, please be generous and give to our charity check stop (today) at the Superstore between 10 am and 1 pm."

They will be accepting donations for the food bank, so non-perishable food donations are appreciated.

"Any non-perishable food donation is great. We are also accepting monetary donations. The food bank is able to purchase the types of food that they need or are in need of when they get donations of money so we would be glad to turn that over to the food bank as well. (Yesterday) we dropped off our first load of food and we're feeling really good about this month and the challenge for this month."

Slaney believes giving back around this time of year is extremely important for those who can.

"Most of us are very fortunate in the things that we have. Unfortunately, there are some people that really struggle and those struggles can be really real and not very good during this time of the year. Every donation counts. We've been working really hard. I know that we have this challenge, and we really want to win this challenge, but there's a bigger picture. We're doing this for Airdrie, we want to show the citizens of Airdrie that, although we have a very important and serious job to do, we are there for the city. If you can, donate, please come out tomorrow from 10-1 and please support this endeavour."
