The latest census numbers confirm what you already guessed: Airdrie continues to grow.

Last night (July 4), City Council heard the results of this year's census. The official results of the census showed that as of April 1, Airdrie has 64,922 residents. That represents a 4.98 per cent growth rate. Airdrie grew by 3,080 residents.

Between April 2016 and April 2017, 1,261 new homes were added to the community. South Windsong, Willowbrook and Baysprings experienced the greatest growth, while Meadowbrook saw the greatest decrease.

99.99 per cent of the city took part in the census, with only 13 properties not responding. The majority went online to take part, with 67.42 per cent completing the census online, and 49.8 percent completing the census online before enumerators started going door to door.

The new census data will help the City apply for grants. The city has a potential of $327 of grant revenue per capita. There is a potential for $1,007,160 potential grant revenue.

The full census results will be made available on the City of Airdrie's website in the fall.
