Stephen's Backpacks began their journey 10 year's ago on a young boys dream of ending homelessness.

Stephen McPhee, at the age of 6, was inspired to help homeless children by filling 15 backpacks and delivering them with his family to Inn from the Cold in Calgary on Christmas.

Stephen's dream only grew, inspiring community involvement in December of 2007, donating a total of 265 backpacks to the shelter.

In 2008, the board was formed and Stephen’s Backpack for Children in Need Society was created.

After a decade of helping homeless children, Stephen came up with the idea to offer other kids the opportunity to share their dreams.

Nancy McPhee, Director of Stephen's Backpacks, said they are looking for kids to submit a video, a drawing, or a sentence explaining what their dream is, and in December, 10 names will be drawn.

"We would like to take the 10 names who were drawn and we would like to mentor them in helping them move forward in their dreams."

McPhee said that another way Stephen's backpacks will be celebrating 10 years is by giving away 10 $1000 RESP's for kids.
