Your home is usually one of the places you feel the most safe, but could it be one of the most dangerous?

Cigarette caused blazes are the leading cause of fire deaths, with one out of four victims being family members of the smoker who's cigarette caused the fire.

Airdrie Fire Department recommends that if you are a smoker to use fire safe cigarettes, smoke outside, and keep all smoking materials out of the reach of children.

When discarding your cigarette butt, do not throw it away in vegetation and make sure it is out by soaking it with water or butting it out in sand.

Electronic cigarettes can also be a fire hazard. Fires have occurred while e-cigarettes have been plugged in, as well as battery explosions due to battery failure.

The Fire Department says taking any and all precautions is the best way to stay safe.
