The business climate in the Town of Crossfield is on the upswing if the recent Annual General Meeting of the Crossfield Chamber of Commerce is any indication.

Executive Director Nicole Vandenberghe is excited by the new Board of Directors that were elected at the AGM.  She says the group is made up of business people with diverse backgrounds which she believes bodes well for the Crossfield business community.

"They're all from differing backgrounds with their business but every one of them has the business community of Crossfield and area really in mind,  It's something that they want to see grow, they want to see succeed.  It's really great that they're kind of on this ground level of Crossfield experiencing this growth. We're getting this bigger board.  We're ready, we're saying 'we know the town's growing, we know our business district's going to grow and the chamber's ready'.  We are growing as well and we're more than prepared to grow and help our businesses continue to grow with this growth that we're experiencing."

In the past, Vandenberghe says the board has been made up of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and two to three Directors.  This year's Board consists of a full executive, four directors plus Karen Postill, last year's President who is staying on the board to serve as Past President.

Jayden Backs is the new President of the Crossfield Chamber.  Backs, a Mortgage Broker, was raised in the community and recently returned to Crossfield to raise his family.

Kim Gleave was elected Vice-President, Diandra Johnson will serve as Treasurer and Angie Payne returns as Secretary.  Lois Jones, Carla Olson, Darlene Banfield and Brian Banfield become Directors.

The Chamber also discussed a number of upcoming events in Crossfield, including one that Vandenberghe says is a new and exciting event for the community.

"We are currently working on getting a Trade Show into Crossfield.  That's about all I can say right now.  We had our first committee meeting and we're looking at venues and dates and kind of how to bring that in 2019.  That's something that everyone's excited to get behind."

This year, the Chamber will host it's Second Annual Rural Women in Business Conference on May 30th.  The first event in 2017 drew nearly 100 business women entrepreneurs.  This year, Vandenberghe is hoping for an attendance of 150.  Anyone interested in attending can get more information and tickets for the event here.
