Yesterday (July 1), Crossfield opened up nominations for their annual Business Awards. Nominations are now open for Airdrie's Business Awards as well.

In Airdrie, there are a number of categories that will recognize local businesses.

"There's six categories, including the Business Leader, Emerging Business, Employer Excellence, Environmental Stewardship, Legacy Business and the Winning Edge award," said Mayor Peter Brown.

Anyone can nominate a business for any number of the categories, as long as the business has a current City of Airdrie business license. The City of Airdrie is welcoming self-nominations.

This year in Crossfield, there will be six categories as well, three more than last year. Nicole Vandenberghe, Executive Director of the Crossfield Chamber of Commerce, explained why she thinks these awards are important.

"It's just a really great way to let our business community know that we appreciate them and why we appreciate them."

Vandenberghe also thinks this is a great way to provide feedback to local businesses that they might not otherwise get.

Once nominations are received for the Crossfield awards, a selection committee will decide the winner in five of the categories. The People's Choice award will be decided through a few rounds of voting. In the first round, businesses can be nominated. The top ten businesses with the most votes by July 26 will go on to a second round of voting.

Mayor Peter Brown hopes that residents will really buy in and nominate their favourite businesses.

"It's really important to recognize businesses in the community and it's always an awesome award ceremony, so I hope people get out there and nominate people."

Nominations in Airdrie close on July 31. You can learn more and nominate a business here.
