Nearly 200 runners braved the smoky conditions yesterday (August 18th) in the fourth annual Quinn’s Legacy Run.

167 runners registered to walk or run 2km, 5km or 10km in support of the mission for Quinn’s Legacy Run Society.

The society following the death of Quinn Cormier from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Currently parental leave benefits after the death of a child to SIDS, meaning grieving parents often have to return to work.

Lee Cormier says that the support for this year’s run was their best yet.

“There was a bit of a decline but this year, everything seems to have picked up and we seem to have the most support we’ve probably had since our first run.”

Mayor Peter Brown and MP Blake Richards were just a couple of the special guests that attended the opening ceremonies.

Richards was on hand to encourage participants to sign a petition to make sure the government does more to support Motion 110 which was passed earlier this year.

“We need to meet with the committee and they have six meetings to determine what they need to do,” said Sarah Cormier, “our newest petition is a call to action that they take action following their investigation.”

Lee says that he and Sarah are grateful for the support they’ve received in the House of Commons.

“It’s really been amazing to get our voice heard at a national level. We were looking at kind of a five-year plan maybe so to have something startup even after the second and third year and then to have Motion 110 already in process in our fourth annual year is great.”

Lee and Sarah agree that while they’re determined to continue the mission of the society, it can’t be forever and would eventually love to see change happen so that the society would no longer be needed.
