A local mother is putting her name forward for Ward 3 Trustee for Rocky View in the upcoming election.

Melyssa Bowen announced her plans to run yesterday (August 24th) and says the biggest issue she wishes to address is Airdrie's rapid growth.

Bowen volunteers at her children's school, A.E. Bowers, where she serves as Chairperson on the School Council. She believes that experience makes her a worthy candidate.

"That desire and the experience I've gained on School Council over the last four years, just hearing what other parents value when it comes to their children's education is what has given me the confidence to do this and makes me feel that I would be an effective trustee."

She says she's seen the needs of a growing student population first hand.

"I know at my school for example, we've had portables that we've needed for a lot of classrooms, trying to make sure that we can accomodate the students that we've had and then just managing that growth has been a challenge for our eduactors and I would love to make that easier."

Bowen hopes to hear from Airdrie parents throughout her campaign through social media as she believes that is the best way to reach as many people as she can.
