An Airdrie couple had a close encounter of the wildlife kind yesterday (October 7) while out for a walk in an Airdrie neighbourhood.

The pair spotted a bobcat on a path in the Cooper's area, and no, we're not talking about someone doing some late season landscaping, we're talking the wild animal type of bobcat.

The couple says they were walking south on 8th Street yesterday morning when they looked down the path leading into Cooperstown and saw the cat.

The lady says she started to move closer to get a better look, then realized what she was doing and retreated.

The couple went home and phoned authoritities who told them they'd would contact Fish and Wildlife and be in touch if needed.

The couple say they weren't called back.

Bobcats are roughly double the size of a typical house cat.  If left alone they generally don't pose a risk to humans.
