Brightly coloured bicycle racks have been popping up around Airdrie.

The bike racks, which are shaped like bicycles and vary in colour from orange to blue to yellow, were installed the week of November 21. Chris MacIssacs with Airdrie Transit says there has been plans to install bike racks in strategic locations for some time. These artsy bike racks are part of the "Place Making Initiative" to give the community some identity.

"We looked at the opportunities to be a little more creative," said MacIssacs, "And that's how we came up with the bike racks that look like bikes that are different colours throughout Airdrie."

Nine racks were installed around the city this week, with the possibility of more coming in next year. The bike racks were made possible by a grant program from the provincial and federal government.
