It was a busy night at the Town and Country Centre last night (December 6) as the public was invited to learn more about Airdrie's proposed submission for the Smart Cities Challenge.

Members of the public that attended had the opportunity to learn about the event through a public engagement session followed by a documentary on healthcare in Canada as well as discussion about the future of healthcare in Airdrie.

Dignitaries from the city, including Mayor Peter Brown, were in attendance as well as members involved in the Smart Cities Application.

Mayor Brown says he was more than thrilled to see the public becoming so engaged.

"We are finally here and you can see the results, I was just talking to a couple here who are over sixty and they are absolutely thrilled and the word was 'it's about time.' So that's pretty exciting when you have people that are here and willing to buy into the idea of living longer and having more productive lives and that's what this application is all about."

Leona Esau Intergovernmental Liason for the City of Airdrie says that the residents of this city truly need something to connect them to the resources available to them.

"This project is about empowering citizens and giving them the information and access to the local resources they need to make better choices about their health and their family's health and all in all its to connect people in our community to one another and the health resources. "

The City will find out if they win one of the two 10 million dollar grants available in spring of 2019
